The white water lotus in it's natural habitat, original photograph with digital enhancement. Each year the river land at Old Woman Creek in Huron, OH comes alive with the emerging lotus flowers. A beautiful sight to behold. The water lotus or Nelumbo nucifera is a perennial aquatic flower often mistaken for the water lily. The flowers of the two are completely different as the lotus has a very unique center. The seeds of the lotus under ideal conditions can be viable for many many years. The oldest lotus germinated from seeds that were 1300 years old. The dried seed pod of the lotus has a distinctive shape not unlike the head of a watering can and is highly sought after for decorative uses.
I come from a creative family who loved art, music, photography and sometimes random hiking adventures. I am thankful to them for giving me the gift of curiosity, creativity and a love of the natural world. I incorporate all of these aspects into my work and enjoy working with a variety of mediums.
