Description

The blobfish is probably one of the most famous fish on the internet but not because it starred in a blockbuster animated film. No it's claim to fame is it's weird appearance and hilarious little sad face, making them popular meme gold. In truth the blobfish or blob sculpin is not nearly this freakish underwater, in fact it is quite adorable. They make their home 600 to 1200 meters down in the deep sea and when brought to the surface their appearance suffers greatly from decompression damage leaving them a gelatinous, depressed looking mess. I think the blobfish, even in this unnatural state, is the cutest thing ever and I just want to pinch his flabby cheeks and give him a big hug. Watercolor and ink on paper.
