Description
Pickerelweed is a beautiful aquatic plant that grows in ponds, marshes and wetlands. Only 2 or 3 feet of the plant is visible as the rest grows underwater. The tall spiky purple flowers have nectar that attracts bees and butterflies. The seeds of the plants are a food source for ducks and muskrats and deer and geese eat the leaves. A very lovely and beneficial plant for the environment. I captured this cluster of plants at the old Woman Creek Estuary and Reserve.
