Description
The adorable Woolly Bear caterpillar crawling across a nature trail in northern Ohio. The Woolly Bear is the larval form of the Tiger Moth and has fuzzy orange and black stripes. The Woolly Bear is most famous for being a predictor of the forthcoming winter weather. According to folklore, if the black stripes are longer than the orange the winter will be long and harsh and if the orange is longer the winter will be mild. There's even a Woolly Bear festival in Vermillion, OH to celebrate this tradition much like Punxsutawney Phil is celebrated on Groundhog Day. If this cute little guy is to be believed (I trust it more than the weather man), than we're in for a mild winter season, fingers crossed!
