Description
I spotted these mussels along the barrier beach shoreline at Old Woman Creek estuary and reserve in Northern Ohio. They don't look like the invasive Zebra mussel species so I believe they are native Lake Erie clams. Either way I thought they had a beautiful quality about them and captured them resting in the shallow water just as I found them. If these are in fact a native species then there is hope for the native clam population. It would be a shame for them to be completely wiped out.
