Description
An exotic species of iguana called the Fiji Banded Iguana stops for a dignified pose at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo. This iguana is native to the southeastern Fijian islands and is considered a national treasure by the government of Fiji. They are an arboreal lizard that spend their days basking and foraging and return to the treetops for the night. This iguana is on the endangered species list due to habitat destruction and non-native predators such as house rats, cats and mongoose. There are less than 10,000 left living in the wild today.
