Description
Black and White Colobus Monkey enjoying a tasty treat. The Colobus Monkey is an "Old World" monkey native to Africa. "Colobus" is Greek for "docked" and these monkeys are named as such for their stubby thumbs that resemble stumps. The Colobus are herbivores with their diet consisting of leaves, fruit, flowers and twigs. Their primary habitats include woodland grasslands, and secondary forests. They live in territorial communities of about nine individuals total, consisting of one male with several females and their offspring. Because of their sloppy eating habits and their digestive system, they provide an important function by helping with seed dispersal. The Colobus Monkey are threatened by many predators, animal and human alike.
