Description
The dried seed pod of the white water lotus surrounded by debris from the beach.
The water lotus or Nelumbo nucifera is a perennial aquatic flower often mistaken for the water lily. The flowers of the two are completely different as the lotus has a very unique center. The seeds of the lotus under ideal conditions can be viable for many many years. The oldest lotus germinated from seeds that were 1300 years old. The dried seed pod of the lotus has a distinctive shape not unlike the head of a watering can and is highly sought after for decorative uses.
