Description
The Adam E. Cornelius is one of two cargo freighters docked in Huron, Ohio. The ship was Christened the Roger M. Kyes on July 28th, 1973 but was later renamed to honor of the co-founder of the American Steamship Company, Adam Edward Cornelius. This large Great Lakes ship is a self-unloading bulk carrier capable of carrying loads up to 29,000 tons and is used to haul stone, limestone, coal, and taconite/iron ore pellets. Although the ship is still active today, it has earned the nickname "hard luck ship" due to a history of mechanical failures and groundings.
